On October 29, 2011, San Gabriel Mountains Forever (SGMF) had a press conference in El Monte that featured Congresswoman Judy Chu: http://youtu.be/9OtqPjF5FW8?hd=1
She supports our vision for the creation of a National Recreation Area that includes the San Gabriel Mountains, portions of the San Gabriel River in urban areas, and the Puente-Chino Hills. The new recreation area would bring in added expertise and expanded resources from the National Park Service to form a connected network of parks, habitats and open spaces.
Our news conference was immediately followed by a National Park Service (NPS) public meeting where the agency presented its draft study of the San Gabriel Mountains and Watershed. Four alternatives for a National Recreation Area were discussed, and the Park Service answered questions and accepted public comment.
